CHA₂DS₂-VASc score
Also called CHA2DS2-VASc, CHADS-VASc, AF stroke risk
Stroke and thromboembolism risk in atrial fibrillation (includes female sex).
Fill 2 more fields to see the result.
Formula and scoring
C 1, H 1, A₂ (≥75) 2, D 1, S₂ (stroke/TIA/TE) 2, V 1, A (65–74) 1, Sc (female) 1. Maximum 9.
Exam and ward pearls
- Female sex is a risk modifier, not a risk factor: a woman with no other factor scores 1 and needs no anticoagulant.
- The 2024 ESC guideline replaced this score with CHA₂DS₂-VA (sex removed).
When not to rely on it
- Stroke risk is dynamic; re-score at follow-up.
- Discrimination is modest (C statistic about 0.6 in the Euro Heart Survey).
